Huawei P30 Pro Short Review

Huawei P30 Pro Short Review

Huawei in their latest model, P30 Pro is trying to create a smartphone with the best camera. And they really managed to do so!

Huawei P30 Pro has a full-screen design which makes it look stunning. They don’t use a hole-punch camera like Samsung. Instead, they installed a teardrop notch at the top center if the phone.

In this model, Huawei put the fingerprint sensor under the screen. And they promise that it’s more responsive than ever.

The phone is rather big: it has a 6.47-inch OLED screen, with curved front and rear sides. The screen has a 2,340 x 1,080 resolution, and it’s easy to see in direct sun.

The speaker, USB-C port (which means USB-C earbuds) and the SIM card slot are at the bottom of the phone. The power button and volume rocker are at the right edge. At the back, you will see the quad-camera setup on the Twilight gradient color which looks magic.

Actually, the phone comes in 5 colors:

  • Amber Sunrise
  • Breathing Crystal
  • Pearl White
  • Aurora
  • Black

The marvelous camera

Huawei and Leica had to re-engineer the camera in this phone model because of the image sensor.

The usual image sensor (Bayer filter or RGGB) uses

  • %25 blue
  • %25 red
  • %50 green

Huawei swapped out the green on yellow for more detailed photos. Yet, to do that they had to redesign the whole camera to keep the colors accurate. They called this SuperSpectrum Lens.

The light sensitivity of the camera is 409.600 ISO. It is the highest ever level in smartphone cameras.

The smartphone has 4 back camera lenses:

  • SuperSpectrum Lens, 40 MP, f/1.6 and optical image stabilization (OIS)
  • wide-angle lens, 20MP, f/2.2
  • Periscope Zoom lens, 8MP, f/3.4, OIS, 5-time optical zoom
  • time-of-flight camera to measure depth (to create bokeh effects in Portrait Mode)

However, the main 40MP camera can’t be used for various modes. By default, it uses 10MP most of the time.

This camera has also Artificial Intelligent Stabilization (AIS) which minimize handshake. This allows to take low-light photos and catch the water-silk shots without a tripod which is really impressive. This also helps get better low light video.

The selfie camera has 32MP, f/2.0.

Specs and performance

Huawei P30 Pro uses the latest Kirin 980 processor with dual Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which uses %40 less energy, as the company claims.

And, of course, it is running the latest operating system Dubbed EMUI 9.1, based on Android 9.0 Pie which looks a bit cartoonish.

The phone comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. 256GB and 512GB are also available.

Yet, you can expand the storage with Nano-Memory Card which uses less space than MicroSD.

The phone has only 4,200mAh battery, but it supports a Huawei’s 40W Huawei SuperCharge which let you charge the phone from %0 to %70 with just 30 minutes. The fast-wireless charging is also supported.

Technically, with the new processor and AI the smartphone delivers better battery performance.

So, the Huawei P30 Pro is an excellent Android phone. If you are looking for a phone to upgrade your old one, the Huawei P30 Pro is a good choice. If you are looking for a used flagship, you can find it on Swapix Nigeria classifieds board.
